Why does GNOME continue to exist? 😑

@Jo Gnome is built to make people switch to better DE. Supposedly the devs found out people were out there actually using gnome on a day to day basis and have tried hard to rectify this problem.
@Jo I need to go back to KDE, soon, hopefully.
I dunno, a few years back KDE was a shit-show and Gnome was actually fine. Seems we just need to constantly re-evaluate every one of our choices every 2-3 years
@Jo I'm still worried that KDE will be a battery-hog like it was last time I tried it
@shanek There are other DEs, though, like LXDE and whatnot?
@Jo I've tried them all by this point, and they all suck in different ways, unfortunately.
Like, I want a slick desktop that's nice to look at and doesn't have screen-tearing and all that other 1998 stuff. I want something that's relatively mainstream so I can count on it being supported and on apps/integrations and all that other stuff.
I dunno, maybe I'm picky. Years back I had all the time in the world for screwing around with WMs and DEs. Not so much today.
@shanek No, that's fair :)
@Jo I kinda wish Fedora/RHEL and Ubuntu had both settled on KDE instead of Gnome.
Like, there's some upside to having both of the major distros use the same infra, but god damn if Gnome isn't the worse of the two mainstream options.
@Jo wow
